Default about to get a 1999 s80 but i have plently of questions !!!

these are some questions that i dont wana ask the dealer cuz he will just give all positive answers lol

is the 1999 s80 a reliable car ? it has 150,000 miles on it and from the pics it looks in good condition.

the only problem is the a/c compressor which needs replace but im not going to fix it because i dont need it....

i love the looks of the car, it is silver, black leather, wood grain, sunroof, and hid lights, so i really want the car but i dont want to have to pay 5,000 extra dollars in the first year on repairs.

the car cost 2900 which to me sounds cheap.

how many miles can these cars last? my neighbor had one that was like a '93 and it had over 200k but he always says he loves it and wants to keep it till it is dead.

please answer these questions for me so i can consider being a first volvo owner lol

thanks, Chris

p.s. i havnt test drove it yet but i know what to look for so that will be a major part of me getting it.

Some dealerships will tell you the truth about this car, mine would, and that would be most likely NO.

It is a better car if it is a non-turbo.

T6, forget it, unless $$$$$$.

the 99 s80's had two options- the 2.9 (naturally asperated) or the T6 (turbo). you're gonna have to look under the hood or look at the owners manual to see what this car is.
What i've noticed with most s80's of the 99 model year like mine, is that you can have a great car or a horrible car. and the turboed cars are definetely not not as reliable as the 2.9's. if you did happen to get a horrible car, there can be many things that go wrong,
-ABS module goes out (depends on part stores/dealerships around this could go anywhere between $400-$1000USD for a quality job)
-Throttle sensors can go out. (-i have no idea how much this costs, i had it done under warranty a few years ago.)
-some front suspension parts have been known to go out a little prematurely. (i just got my front spring seats replaced for $300USD)
-among other things it could get expensive quick. (afterall- it's a volvo)

depends on the previous owner and if they got all those factory defects dealt with already or not.
i really like mine, and it's a great car for me. and i like it because you don't see a lot of them around.

hope this helps....

yah ur right, volvos are just as luxurious as bmw's but for some reason just arent as popular... some time in my life i wish to get a volvo and you know, customize it with rims, sound system, tint, and all that to make it better. and i will be in love..

in this case, you guys are right, no matter what car, nearly 12 years old with 150k miles is A LOT, and what really turned me down is that he said the cars has had no recent major repairs....some people may think that is a good thing but if the owner had just got the transmission replaced it most likly has a little warranty on it and most likly wont go out in another 5-10 years....

the owner said nothing has been fixed which means repairs are guna pile on me like crazy

has the transmission been replaced yet?
Has the ABS been replaced yet?
has the ETM been replaced yet?
Has the sunroof been repaired yet?
Has the oxygen sensors been replaced yet?
Have the spring seats been replaced yet?

Expect to run into these issues. I could go on and on about the typical problems with S80s. 1999's were very bad years

As a soon to be former owner, I'd not recommend these cars.
