AIRBAG SRS - Pulled Dome light out = SRS light?

Unhappy AIRBAG SRS - Pulled Dome light out = SRS light?

Hi there! First post, so please be kind. I'm 26, I've had Esmerelda for about 4 years now and I'm gonna give her all the love she deserves. So, what had happened was....

I noticed a rattle when the music was in boom boom mode and I could not handle it. Had the car off, pulled the dome light assembly and a very small piece of plastic and a family of crusty spiders came falling out. No big deal right?

After checking the bulbs, I popped it back in. Turned the car on, turned the music up but still a rattle. Without turning the car off, I just popped the assembly back out. SRS Airbag service light was immediate. Really hard face-palm followed.

Restarted the car, no light in the on position,only when started.... Code reader doesn't pick up anything. OBDXII bluetooth reader.

I've unplugged the battery in hopes of a manual reset.. Going to check on it after a minute. I will update ASAP: UPDATE: LIGHT IS STILL ON :0

Please HELP. Save ya boy.

fault codes are stored in the computers - disconnecting the battery doesn't reset. Also, not all OBD2 code readers can read all the classes of fault codes - you may want to ask Autozone if they rent/loan an ODB2 scanner capable of viewing/resetting SRS codes. You may also find a friendly indy euro car repair shop willing to do a quick scan/reset for you without charge. Some dealers "may" do the same as they know if you truly have a failed component, the light will simply reset.

No helpful auto shops with capable scanners around. I plan to own Volvos for years to come, so I will be getting a decent scanner.

I was unable to perform voodoo, so the light still remains. Esmerelda is now scheduled for oil change, tire rotation, and a code reset at the local dealer.

You specified a "dealer" not an indy Volvo mechanic, so....
Many, maybe even most, dealers are money grubbing SOBs. Now as an owner of a 13 year old Volvo, you are a potential college degree for the dealer's son (daughter, what not), a deluxe cruise for him and his wife every summer, or at least a asphalt resurface for the lot. You would think he would ply you with Godiva truffles and soak your feet in warmed Perrier while you waited, but nooooo, he resorts to the squeeze you till you bleed treatment.

Most indy mechanics are much more decent, they want you to come back. and I have had them reset codes and other no cost to them services for free.

I would call the service manager and explain your position, you paid for an oil change at way more than you could have had others, or your self, do so. You paid him to rotate the tires (I shudder to ask the cost) something that nearly all tire stores do for free. Or, again, is well within most peoples capabilities. So you are a good customer. Let him know he can refund the C note, or you will go elsewhere.

As an aside, 5 years ago I moved 45 miles from my long time mechanic to a place that is 10 blocks from a big dealer. The results;
1) Replace brakes, didn't even clean the rusty dust off the wheels or flush out the brake fluid (I asked, tech said they'd check it. They didn't) Washed car
2) Front struts. Car rides stiff. No wash , when I called I was told I'd get a detail with next service.
3) had a misfire (100,000 mile) they replace 2 plugs, two coils(originals). No wash, no detail. 3000 miles later, I have a misfire again.

I'm driving back to my mechanic or try a respected indy wrench a bit closer.
