Default Alternator?

Hello:

my 2009 had a charging failure service urgent this morning for my Wife when she took the kids to school. From searching on the web it seems to be an alternator, which I bought at $800 since it appears there is no after market part?

Is this a common fault with the S80?

Thanks
C

09 2009 Volvo S80 Alternator - Engine Electrical - Bosch, Pure Energy, USA Industries - PartsGeek

Reasons an Alternator Would Go Bad | eHow.com

Alternators are one of those parts on a car that can and will die unexpectedly.

Are you saying you have already bought a replacement alternator?

55K miles- Yes I bought altenator since I was going to be out of town and my Wife can't drive my other car.

The altenator was 800 dollars from a Volvo dealer, it appears that even though aftermarket parts are found online, when calling a store they say the part can only be OEM.

The old altenator was made in the UK and the new in Hungry -

After the replacement my Wife says the car drives a lot better, and when I drove it today, yes it did. But yet again the charging light came back on and its being towed to my mechanic. The battery tested good but needed to be recharged-so I am tihnk that because the alt. was bad the battery died too or has bad cells.
