Default Bad ignition coils

I drive a 2000 Volvo S80, 6-cylinder. I learned that I have 3 bad ignition coils that need replacing at about $700-800 for parts & labor. I'm trying to avoid putting any more money into this car that I may soon replace.
What happens if I don't replace the ignition coils? I realize that the car's performance/accelleration is sluggish and I'm not getting the best gas mileage, but am I at risk of causing more serious engine damage?

Thanks

depends on if you have a constant miss. Have you made sure its not the wiring. I accidentally pinched a wire after doing a timing belt on a V40 today. thought it was a coil. As soon as I took the plastic covers off miss went away (repaired wire it and was ready to go)

Yes it seems coils drop like flys. Happened to me more than once. It takes only about 30 minutes -- hour and a half tops if you are taking your time and doing it on your lunch break to replace all coils. That price quote is high.

used coils run about $75 each. Find a junk yard.

its never a good idea to run a car that has a noticeable miss, or when it throws check engine light.

This is an easy DIY job. The coils should cost you $50.00 each. Shp around and save yourself $550

I find it hard to believe that 3 went all at the same time but if you are planning on dumping the car just buy some at a salvage yard for cheap.
