Bad Transmission
My transmission in my 99 S80 finally gave out and sticks in 2nd gear. I took it to a transmission place and they said they could take the transmission apart and replace all the "soft parts" like gaskets and stuff for about $1500. They said and "hard parts" would cost extra. They also said that the error code that was thrown was that a solenoid was bad. Does anyone know if simply replacing all the gaskets and cleaning out the transmission will fix this? Or is it going to cost extra to replace the solenoid (and if so how much)?
I'm trying to figure out if I should fix the transmission before I sell it or just sell it as is. I've had too many problems with this car and its time for a new one.
Thanks

same thing happened to me recently, it stuck in 2nd and now i'm buying a used tranny with about 30k to fix my problem. my mechanic told me my clutch was slipping from overheating. There's really nothing you can do, get the best tranny setup in your car as you can. Finding a used one with low miles may be a better option, because if the "soft" parts of the tranny are replaced and it's still pulling code, it will fail again ultimately. the solenoid code is nothing more than your car telling you your tranny is toast.
if your tranny just went and you've already been fixing stuff on this car, then this should be the one of the last things to worry about. if the car runs fine after a tranny job, I'd keep it.
too much to invest and then just get rid of.
