I took my 2007 s80 3.2 to my local shop who told me they don't have the tool needed to replace my blower motor. I asked around and was told the same thing at other shops so I ended up taking it to the dealer. I'm being told the blower motor and power stage needs to be replaced and they're asking over $900 for this - plus $65 for telling me that it needs to be replaced but I don't see why I'm being changed this if I told them what the problem is!
My question is- is this a fair price or should I find someone else? What is a fair price for this?

I had work done at the same dealer last month and told them I had a power steering leak. They insisted I don't and said the oil pan needs to be replaced so I had that done, which I'm regretting. So now it's there again and they say the power steering pump needs to be replaced and it'll cost $800. Plus $65 to tell me that. I'm no good with this stuff - can someone please tell me what I should do.

 

Without looking them up, those prices sound pretty close.

They should not be charging $65 diagnosis for something you simply asked for an estimate for. I would not pay that.

 

Thank you for the reply. I may have misspoke - I told the dealer I want the blower motor replaced- so I don't understand why they're changing me to diagnose what I asked them to fix.
For the power steering problem I told them there's a leak and wanted to know how much to fix it. I can see them charging for their time but I just had it in with them a few weeks ago and asked them for the same thing and they said they can't find a leak. Now I'm wondering if it's really a bad pump. I have to add fluid once a week and I can see it dripping under my car. I was told by my local shop that it's a PS hose and they recommended I take it to the dealer because they couldn't do it - so I'm now worried that I'll get the new pump and still have the leak. What can I do to ensure its really the pump and not something else leaking? Would a bad pump cause a leak such as I've described?

It could. But so could a hose. I would talk to the service manager since it was just there.
