Default Brake disc replacement on a 2004 S80

Hello! Great forum.

I have a 2004 S80 2.9 that needs brakes all around. I'm at about 47K miles and had the car in the dealer for an estimate. Came in at $900.00.

Years ago, (around 20) I worked at a local shop doing brakes and other relatively easy repairs. I popped a wheel off the car and replacing pads looks pretty much the same asit did back when I was involved in the industry. I want to replace the brake discs as well. Here's where I have a few questions. The first one being the proper meathod in removing the discs. I searched for some sort of service manual with no luck. Can anyone direct me to an exploded view of the disc/caliper setup on this car? Or maybe provide some tips on removing the old discs?

Second question is replacement parts. A. Do I want the OEM versions? B. Where is the best place to buy them? (cheapest/most reliable.)

This car will be sold in the next 3 months as we are buying a new one. I certainly want to sell it with good brakes, but have no interest in upgrading to a better/longer lasting brake as I will really not benefit from it.

Thanks for your help!

I too have had a good experience with the above. Fair price and good quality.

Thanks. They seem to have just what I need. Are the Zimmerman products oem? I would love to get a service manual or tips on disc replacement if anyone knows where I can find that info.

Thanks again!

I am not sure who is the OEM supplier to Volvo. I generally use Brembo products on my European autos but very recently I purchased the Zimmerman ventilated rotors for my old C70 and they certainly exude quality and work very well. Whereas I cannot help you with the actual procedure in removing/replacing your rotors, I would think that you would not have any issues that would not be obvious. I had no problem in the brake job on the C70 what-so-ever.

If you want some tips, check out the post I started about 2-3 weeks ago "new brakes".
Jlewis and nicolas were very informative re: the brake job and parts and where to buy them. So much so that I am going to attempt it myself. Tomorrow I am going to measure my rotors and order the parts.
If you look at one of the replies I got, it talks about myswedishparts.com which is a volvo dealership in texas or something. I plan to order the pads from there and the rotors from eeuroparts. Everybody cautions against using any oem brake pads.
As far as a repair manual, I bought a dvd on ebay that is quite amazing. I understand very little of it, but it covers EVERYTHING. It explodes the brake photos as you requested as well as every other damn thing on this car. For 25 bucks, it is great. I was goingto try to copy it and sell it cheap here in the forum to all the members, but I always forget to try burning a copy and see if it works.
After I post this, I will see if I can bring up the brake stuff, and try sending it to you.

Thanks Howard!

I'd appreciate it a lot if you could send me any pictures and/or brake replacement instructions for this vehicle. Thanks for taking the time to help! Feel free to email me directly if you prefer.
