Default Brake issue in 1999 S80

Hello! Hope someone can give me a clue before I call a garage-no Volvo experts in area and have had some issues with local supposedly reputable garages in the recent past!

Have a 1999 Volvo S80 non-turbo, 145k. Last night when driving, tapped the brake to slow on a curve and all the warning lights and messages came on for brake system. Brakes seem fine-no different and brake fluid is full if somewhat dark. This am turned car on-no lights. Drove a bout a mile, stopped at few stop signs, no lights or problems, then stopped and bang-all lights, including check engine, back on. Any ideas?

Grateful for any help/ideas before I make the call. Was so happy to discover this site-great ammo/tool for a girl who has gotten screwed by mechanics who know nothing about Volvos! Wish I discovered it sooner! (Best so far is Chevy dealer who told me I needed a new Power Window Regulator Assembly for driver's side for $887 + installed, when all I needed was a $3 clip!!And they broke the window-which they of course denied!)

Thanks in advance-appreciate it! Maura in CT

Hmm, well I think start off with the basics. That being that your electrics such as battery, connections and alternator are in good condition.

Thank you! Tried those, as I have had issues with just the check engine light going on for no reason in the past and it was battery. Someone on another site suggested the ABS Brake Control Module. Been searching on here looking for any info-found some things on brake booster-but I am not a mechanic-so not really sure what some of the stuff I see is about!

They also referred me to a company called Xemodex Inc in Canada who rebuilds BCM and other modules with a life time guarantee. If only I could find a good local foreign car specialist! Good thing I love my Volvo! Thanks again!

Most of the electronics on the S80 and other P2 cars are actually networked. Often a component (such as an ABS controller) flood the network with garbage packets and all hell brakes loose. You could try disconnecting the ABS module and see if this affects the other symptoms. Having the ABS disconected will not directly affect performance or safety, but in an emergency situation you are more likely to lock your wheels.

Default Thank you-wondered about drivability

Good Morning! Thank you for the info-wonder if my local little garage that I trust but doesn't do 'major' stuff, particularly electronic-are mainly a brake/tire/front end place-can disconnect it. Plan to send out to be rebuilt anyway if that is truly an option. Thank you again and have a wonderful holiday weekend!
