Several times lately when I mash the brakes I get a message brake light failure this will happen several times then I will not get the message for maybe a couple days then it will start over again brake lights seem to be fine any ideas?

 

If you're sure both bulbs are good and the contacts aren't corroded or anything like that, then there's a relay hidden in the left side of the trunk/cargo area that's the likely culprit. It's labeled RMI5 and eEuroParts sells them for ~$18.
