The ETM and ETM software upgrade should be accomplished for free by the dealership. If those aren't the culprits for the problems you've described, then they will only charge you for the diagnostic.

They can diagnose it for you and then you can take it elsewhere to get the work done.

The S80 is a good ride, it just has some known issues. If the ETM is the problem, your car will be running like a champ in no time!

ok so its been a couple days and the car was running great after the dealership cleaned and reprogramed the etm so you guys were right it was that thanks so much only problem is that today i was working on the headlights and happened to leave them on for a few minutes long story short they drained my battery when i restarted the car its actting up ounce again so i contacted the dealership and there going to try and get me a new etm they said there weren't sure if it would be possible under the recall/warranty because my car had been a total lost due to flood previously before i purchased it. ill keep you guys posted on the outcome.

so after taking it to the dealer again i was told that the etm did not need reprograming for a second time i thought it might since it started actting up after the battery died long story short they told me it was a clogged catalytic so i removed it and cleared it i also put on a new battery still having the same issues the car doesn't accelerate properly you have to push it to like 3k rpms before it starts moving what do u think guys is this a bad etm? what can i check for are there any ohms test i can do?

S80NM,

How did you go about unclogging your Catalytic Converter? I have had a hell of a time with emission problems with my silver money pit. Also, does anyone have a link to the emission warranty information for the S80?

i used a sludge hammer and a solid steel bar the back park is cake but the ones closer to the down pipe were like aluminum fins so they would not fall through so i beat it into the next compartment cut it opened removed the remaining pieces then i sodered it back together with oxy & acc and a bronze rod with flux on it came out great no leaks.

Too bad you couldn't have verified that the cat was bad before you did the "no-no"... Unfortunately, that may have opened up another can of worms. These logic cars will set a code based upon cat efficiency and if it's not there--

P1330 Variable Valve Timing solenoid
P1633 CAN bus data link error -- usually something is off with the ABS controller when this is seen.

You can't remove the sensors.

Maybe the missfire caused the code but doubt it.
