I tried to start my car last week and it doesn't start. It turn but just not starting. Now that I have it parked for a week, my battery all drained out.

The engine light came on for a while and because I didn't have the money to have it check, now it is not starting.

I am not good at mechanic but my thought was that there might be the alternator?

My question is, where should I begin just to get my car started before hauling to the shop?

Please help this rookie here. I have 90k on my car.

First you need to charge the battery and try to get the codes read.

 

Does it crank over when the battery is charged?

 

Yes, it cranked when the battery still charged.

My battery had less then two years on it so I am not sure it is the battery.
