The whole car shut off every single error light that could come on did and the car said stop the car safley and then restart. I was able to luckly and now it says engine system service required. The check engine light is on also. We havent taken it to volvo yet just wanted to get some imput, I'm taking about you tech

Im going on a limb here. Most likely a bad throttle body or a mass flow sensor.
My Vote goes with the throttle body.

If that is it and they replace it and try to charge you they can't. The warranty is now 10 years 200,000 miles.

Again I have a question about the throttle body...is 40,000 miles too early for a cleaning? It hasn't needed replacing and I'm hoping it doesnt.

10 years/200,000 miles on the Electronic Control Module (ECM) on certain years and models of Volvo. I believe there is a link from the Volvo xc.com site as Cross Country's seem to be the most affected.

Only the ETM is covered. Go to mathews volvo site..............you will find a plethora of info on the issue. Alternatively if you are a Volvo club member, the problem is covered quite well in their magazine.

Oh it will need replacing.........I can guarantee you that! At any rate, I have had mine cleaned by the dealer as early as 20,000 miles. It is a relatively inexpensive procedure. My MAF has failed and that was at around 30,000 miles!
