Default Dipping Bulb Malfunction

I'm a new (preowned) S80 owner. The message console informed me that I had a "bulb malfunction dipping beam" this morning. Anyone have any idea what a "Dipping Beam" might be?

If teh bulbs and fuses are good then you need to check the shunt in the main computer under the dash.

Agree with tech,

There is a set of shunts (like big fuses) under the dash on the drivers side.

I used to go through these for fun and realised that the main bulbs in the headlights where a xenon type and were drawing too much current and heated up the shunt melted the plastic and therfor the fuse on the shunt.
It can aslo happen if you upgrade the sidelight bulbs as well.
There are ways round altering the shunt by drilling a hole in it, but i decided not to risk it and just replaced the shunt and bulbs and hey presto cured!
Shunts are volvo only but only cost about £3 uk
