Lightbulb Error Message: Bulb Failure Position Light

Error Message: Bulb Failure Position Light
2004 AWD with stock HID's

Any ideas on what this means, I've done a visual check on all of my lights and don't see anything wrong. Ideas?

Take out your tail lights bulbs and either....scuff the lead metal part of the bulb with sand paper or rubb them on concrete...install and enjoy.

I've dealt with that message a number of times with the tail lights and found that slight variations in bulb resistances will flag the warning message.

I'm interested to try FS's suggestion of scuffing the base as that would alter the current flow to the bulb.

ok thanks, This message has been coming up for a while for a day at a time then going away but since it's been on for 4 or 5 days straight I'll take a look at the tail lights.

My Volvo eats bulbs routinely and you have to love the ones that go on then go off routinely. Scuffing them is good and coating them with some electrical grease helps too.

I tried the scuffing suggestion and the ECM still thinks the position bulbs are blown.

Can someone post what the acceptable bulb resistance range ought to be?
