Default Front end Strut Insert Installation

Hello all,

I just got my 2003 S80 T6 back from the dealer for some front end work and they informed me that I need new front end struts. They've quoted me a price of $760, plus tax. I've done some research and found Sach's struts for around $110 - 119 each. Are Sach's struts OEM or should I be looking for a different manufacturer that will give me original ride characteristics?

Thanks,

Joe

Yes they are the OEM struts. Some might be marked as Boge but they were bought by Sach's.

Link is to show yes they are OEM.

Do the Koni replacement struts feel much more stiff than the Sachs OEM struts? I just read a bit about the Koni's and I wonder if they'll perform better than the Sach's models. I like the original performance, but have no reference point to select the Koni's over the Sach's struts. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Considering doing the replacement myself after reading the "how to" on Matt's page.

From what I understand the Koni's are stiffer. But I have never used them myself. I know people on here have maybe they can chime in and help.

I use Bilstein HDs on my 745T and I dont find them "stiff", but others say they are STIFF. Not sure if the KONIs are any stiffer then the Bilsteins.
If you like the handling of the OEM then just stick with OEM. If you are out for preformance, then YES....get the KONIs or Bilsteins.
BUT...If you do upgrade to KONIs or Bilsteins, then I would consider getting sport springs, for the damping might be to much for the stock spring.

Good Luck.

Note: A suspension is a very delicate piece of work, so dont mix and match the OEM Shocks/struts with preformance ones, for you will upset the balance.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm going to go with the Sach's model struts. I'm pretty happy with the stock handling of the car. I'll tell you if I choose to install them myself.
