Default 98 V70 T5 Can't insert key

Greetings all! Glad to be a new member of the forum.

I have a question I was hoping someone could answer.

I have a 98 V70 T5. A couple of days ago, I parked and took my key out of the ignition. The next time I got in my car, I couldn't insert the key into the ignition... not even a little bit. I made sure the shifter was in the park position. Another thing is the shift lock override button is in the "up" position but it doesn't work when depressed.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I searched and couldn't find anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think the folks where the car is parked are starting to get a bit annoyed.

Try spraying a little WD-40 and make sure the Shifter **** is all the way out. The button you push to take out of gear.

The shift lock button should be up.

I tried some wd-40 when this first happened a couple of days ago to no avail. The button is all the way out and will not release the shifter when pressed.

I neglected to mention that prior to this happening, I was having to use the shift lock button to get the shifter out of park.

Thanks for the suggestions!

The lock cylinder might have gone bad all the way.
The shiftlock not working might just be a bad Microswitch.

If the key isn't turned to the II position the shiftlock will not work.

Can you get a Small screw driver in the hole at all? Cafefully

I have seen this before and the lock cylinder would have to be replaced.

I was afraid that would be the case. I'll look and see about the screwdriver when I get home from work.

Am I correct in thinking that the lock cylinder has to be ordered from Volvo to match my key? Do dealers stock these with separate keys?

Thanks for all the help!

If you want one coded to yours it will be about a week.

Some Dealers will stock some not coded the same as yours.
