Default Help: Head lights not working

My front headlights are not working but the high beams are working. And a message called Bulb Failer Dipped bulb is coming on. But the thing that I am concerned about is two months ago I replaced the left bulb and that is not working along with the right bulb.So what might be the problem.

Thanks

As with any electrical type of problem, I would check to make sure it gets power. Check fusesand use a volt meter to test for power. One leg to car ground and the other to the holes in the connector. Make sure you have the right type of light bulb, wrong type might short-out the circuitry. Do a continuity test of the bulbs to see if they are still good.

Under the Dash is a relay box. Kind of hard to get to.
There is what they call a shunt. That controls the headlights. They are known to have bad connections.
You can usually find which one it is by looking for Melt marks in the box.

Try cleaning both sides really good and closing the connection some and you should be fine for a while.

What side of the dash, is it the driver or the passenger side. Anything I have to unscrew. Is there any perticuler way I should clean them.

It is under the drivers side.
You will have to unscrew 2 screws to remove the lower dash panel.
The box will come out if you release the tab on the top.

That sounded like you have a loose/bad connection. Check the relay like Tech said before it goes bad on you or even burn out.

Ok the headlights went out agian last night after they came back again. I am not a mechanically inclined person so I think I am going to take it to my private machanic or the volvo dealeship to get it taken care of. Any idea how much this will cost to get it fixed at the dealership.

Wow, thats not exactly what I wanted to hear. But it does not need a new computer right. You said before that its a bad connection and needs to be cleaned. Can write down some directions and what exactly should be down so I can print it out and take it to my private machanic so he can do it.

Thanks

The Dealer will say it needs to be replaced. But I have cleaned them many times.

Write down what I wrote before and bring it to him.
Also do a search on the forum I believe there was a post with some pics.

Hello,

I looked all over this site and I could not find any pics of this shunt box. And also how are the bad wires supposed to be cleaned, for example are they suppossed to be cleaned with something damped or dry like with a cloth or paper towel.
