Default HID kits for s80

Hello again,

I just purchased mtec HID conversion kit 8000k, and spent like 335$, and forgot to check something about them. If i install them, will any error messages appear, They say for mercedes and BMW's they will be no indicators, but for a 2001 Volvo s80 t6, will there be any problems or error messages?

They are suppose very high quality,

thanks!

It would be best to E-mail them or call them and ask them. They will know the product the best.

let us know how they work out. I've been worried about the heat and its effects on the lenses.

do u have a kit in your car, which brand is urs made by? Do any error messages come on? If you do have a kit, does urs have the bulbs and ballasts?
From what i know, they never tried them on an s80, and the guy's not sure, the bulbs will be here in 3 days.....

well, after debate,
There is an s60 kit, which uses the same bulbs as s80, so i took a chance on that, they added something to stop the error message to come----since hid's use less wattage 35 watts, from what the guy tells me, they added a voltage balancer.....The bulbs are the same, so does this mean the s60 kit hid will work on the s80 no problem??

Hi Gordon,

Can you provide more details on your HID conversion (e.g. install instructions, problems, degree of difficulty, 35w vs 55w)?

Also have you had problems with being pulled over for the lights?

Lastly, S80 has DRLs, so do you just keep the HIDs on all the time?

thanks

I have also been very interested in HID kits recently, and while I am considering putting them on my accord first, I may eventually do it to the s80 if I am pleased with the results.

My main issue is what to buy and how much to spend.. Ebay has the entire price range from $60 up to $300 but I have gone on what recommendations I have found, alot of people suggested the seller "smart4cars" and they seem to be one of the more reliable options on ebay.
The next 2 options that I am considering are www.sharphid.com and www.autolamps-online.com
Sharp HID has the Apexcone/DDM kits for either $100(35w) and 140(55w) and autolamps has a genuine Philips kit for $145 (35w)

I really am in a predicament because I trust philips but I have to ask myself whether it is worth twice ebay or 33# more than sharphid..

where did you all get your HID's from and what brand/colour temperature did you decide on?
thanks

can anyone tell me the difference between the kits HERE
http://www.ddmtuning.com/hidkihidbuhi.html

and those found from SharpHID. They appear to be exactly identical, same warranty etc, except the ddmtuning site seems to be MUCH cheaper than the sharpHID one..
Any advice will be apreciated
thanks

lol there are so many kits out there.

i went the 8000k, its illegal but cops have seen them numerous times and have said nothing to me about them (probably cuz they are in a higher end car). They are not blinding, but man they do provide hella upgrade.

If you get them, make sure you change your DRL's setting so that the orange lights are the only ones to come on. The initial start with them already being on will ruin them.

I think really any kit will be fine, just make sure you get them and request that you do not want no errors on the internal dashboard.

I do have some pictures of the install on my s80. the install took me 1 hr, and im a novice. You need to find a place to mount the balasts and drill a hole in the headlight inner cover to run the wire through.

-my stereo is been upgraded further lol, gonna do a update this week on my new setup.

I did get rid of my MTEC kit, but thats because a bulb blew out and I did the warranty thing, got the bulb replaced and decided to sell it for some $. I have full intention of buying another kit.

Anyone know anything about the DDM tuning site?
Also, I dont think il need anything to counteract error problems as my accord is fairly old and not that computerised anyway.. Also, the DRL's will only be an issue in the S80 if I decide to go down that road.. Accord first though

What do you all think about the 32w vs 55w kits? According to sharpHID, the 5000k kits im considering give out 3150 lumens at 35w but give out 4050lumens with the 55w... Do you think 4050 will be overcompensating?
The thing is, I'm doing this kit into a reflector housing on my accord so I will have to be very careful about where my beam focuses etc..
Another thing to keep in mind is that I dont have to worry about DMV or police issues as the car is over in Trinidad, so neither is really applicable haha

anyway, advice is really apreciated..

On further research, www.apexcone.com sends you to the ddmtuning site for purchases.. im still skeptical due to the obscenely low price but I shouldnt be complaining if I know it is all legit and above board..

I cant help but wonder why ddmtuning can sell a product for $60 that is $100 everywhere else or how they can sell for $85 what is $140 in sharphid.. just makes me wonder, but at that price to get a lifetime warranty.. makes me rather confused..
