Home made cold air intake 99 S80 T6
So I was at Home depot in the plumming dept. and was looking at the 3" connectors when I started to piece it together. I had a Spectra cone filter in the trunk so I went out and got it. All I needed was a 3" rubber elbow, one 4" rubber coupling and a 6" long piece of pvc. The elbow and coupling came with the clamps. Took it all back to the shop, painted the pvc black then assembled it and installed it. It works great! Where I had just did the BSR tuning it made it that much better. Total cost was about $30.00 bucks at Home depot plus the filter. Sorry about the cell phone pics.

Thanks. It sits all the way down about 1 " above the plastic skid plate and half way below the front of the sub frame, about as far away from the motor as I could get it. Any thoughts on how to shield it better?
If your car doesn't have foglights try to make a cup looking thing around the filter and direct the airflow from where the foglight should be directly into the filter.
That is pretty cool...
If you want a cheap and easy Heat sheild that works just as good if not better than somthing you can find...
Use a peice of double-walled cardboard cut it to the shape you need (free), Get some Rust-oleum high heat BBQ black spray paint (~$10), and go find some rubber tim or something and snap it on as a seal to the body (free to ~$10). Check out mine here.
Edit: Since your intake is so low now...Be very very carefull when drive in rain or through puddle, because you can seize the engine if you suck up too much water.
And here is what we did to my dads car:

My main reason was for the water. But I would think if it was higher in the bucket it might have a chance to cool a little more as well when it was turning inside the bucket before the filter. I just wold keep it as high as I could.
