I was atthe Volvo dealer today to have the oil change and the coolant flush done on my 99 S80 which now has 130K miles. I ask them how much they would charge to install a new fuel filterand he said that just the labor would be $200 and the part alone would be $44.00. I was a little surprised that just the labor rate is $200 to install a new fuel filter. Is this really that big of a job. Has anyone paid this much to get a new fuel installed at the dealership.So anyways what I did is I bought the part for $44.00 at the dealership and I think im just going to have some private indepent shop install it for less.

 

ARE THEY CHARGING $100.00/HR LABOR? I AM WANTING TO CHANGE MINE OUT ALSO BUT HAVEN'T CHECKED INTO IT YET AND HOW HARD IT WOULD BE TO DO MYSELF. MOST LIKELY I WILL BUY A NEW FILTER AND INSTALL IT MYSELF UNLESS IT IS HARD TO GET TO. I'M SURE SOMEONE ELSE WILL HELP US OUT HERE SOON WITH A BETTER ANSWER.

 

Takes about 5 minutes to change I believe book time is 1/2 labor.

 

the fuel filter is one of the easiest items to replace on these cars, my dealers list on the volvo fiter is 39.55 , I got it for 31.64 , sounds like you need to ask the service advisor to explain just what the problem is in swapping the fuel filter to justify that kind of labor cost.

 

I guess they see easy money when they talk to you...!
