How much should a front brake job cost?
I just got back from the dealership and getting the transmission fluid flushed. The technician said that the car looked great, and the only thing I have coming up is a break job. He said that both the front rotors and pads will need to be replaced. I asked for a quote and they said $400-$500 w/ labor included.
Does that sound right for the price on a brake job. I don't think that's over the top expensive, I just want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off!

I do my own brakes and my daughter has a 99 S80 T6. I just priced the parts and I can get pads and rotors for around $200.00. I figure I can do it myself in less than two hours. If you are at all mechanically inclined, I think brakes are one of the easiest things to do yourself. Most people are afraid to try though. For some reason they have this fear that they will not work when they are done, and they think brakes are important to have. Personally I always have my wife do the first test drive after I'm done just to make sure they work. You know because I don't want to get the inside of the car dirty. haha. Just kidding.
Hahah! If I had a garage available I wouldn't mind doing it myself. I'll have to see if I can't find a buddy that will lend me his garage for an afternoon. As for the 2 hours you said it would take you, that sounds about right, because the dealership charges upwards of a $100/hour, so that would put the total cost with your parts at $400.
I also had a 99 T6 that I did the front brakes. Bought the pads on Ebay ($38) and 2 - rotors for $88 off the internet w/ free shipping. Had a buddy come over and after all the tight bolts were loosened (took an hour to do this) we were done in 2 hours easily. That is about as cheap as you'll find.

Use Volvo pads!!! Don't buy cheap pads, they will squeal like crazy. I also use the OEM rotors, but that's just me. Check this online Volvo dealer for price:

I have bought from them a couple times.
