Good evening. I'm a new member just signed up a few minutes ago,
my 2009 S80 T6 AC compressor has to be replaced, but I am having trouble finding the correct aftermarket model.
Our local Volvo dealer says there are 2 models that were installed on that year.
There is a sticker on the compressor that identifies the manufacturer as Valeo but no part numbers on that sticker.
Another sticker from Volvo gives a few numbers but I cannot cross reference those numbers with any of the parts companies like Rock Auto, or FCP and a fewothers.
The numbers on this sticker are 31250570 last 2 numbers might be 20 sticker is scratached. other numbers DSC 17EC Z00022 80C OIL VOLVO P/No. 8708581
Can anyone assist me selecting the correct compressor.
Thanks Peter
If you search eBay/Amazon/Google for "Volvo 31250520" you'll see after market compressors. Usually when you see two part numbers a model year its because there's a "parts break" by VIN ie "2009 S80 T6 From Chassis/VIN 101517". What's the last 6 digits in your VIN?

31250520 is the original part number.
What's wrong with your compressor? A couple things commonly go wrong and prevent operation/cooling. The Clutch has a dampening ring in it that comes loose and will prevent the clutch from closing and the compressor won't spin. Take outer clutch off, remove loose ring and reassemble. Or compressor spins, is full of freon (someone did an evacuate and proper recharge to make sure) but does not cool and pressures are wrong. That's usually a displacement control valve problem. Either not working or partially clogged. #6 on the diagram. A new valve makes the ac cold again. If your compressor is seized - sorry about that! There is only one part number listed - Note the compressor at the bottom of the page #19 does not have part number listed for it.

I believe I have solved the problem, however your information is excellent. I hope I can be a productive member of the forum. I have owned about 7 or 8 Volvos over the last 30 years. 700 series wagon, 760 sedan, XC-70, V50, S-80, V-90, 850-R . I'm no Volvo expert by any stretch of the imagination, my strengths are in machining, welding and thinking out of the box.
The compressor has been noisy for the last 6 or 7 years but worked well. About 3 weeks ago, at a stop sign I noticed an odd smell. Opened the hood and the AC clutch was smoking, it smelt like the friction material was suffering from a melt down and there was dark viscous fluid oozing from just under the sides of the pulley. I turned the AC off and drove the vehicle home.
About a week later I decided to drive the car to our local Volvo guy. There is no dealer within 160 miles. This mechanic only works on Volvos, even if your a long time client he will not look at anything else. I have a SAAB, Mercedes [2 of] a Jeep Grand Cherokee and a Zetor Tractor, he won't look at any of them so I usually do the mechanical work myself. He is a one man show and he has a loyal client base. So to make a long story longer about 500 yards after I pulled out of my lane the steering got very stiff and when I opened the hood the drive belt has failed, compressor clutch seized. Call AAA [CAA here] and got it towed to the mechanics shop. Yesterday he checked the car and between him and myself decided to install and new Compressor. Plus while in that area replace the water pump, belt pullies and the belt of course. It's just maintenance for a car with 250K miles.
I'm going to buy a new DCS-17EC by Nissens $ 375.91 USD delivered to my door here in north Eastern Canada.
Thanks and Regards Peter
Thanks for the reminder. I did the alternator and overrun pulley late last year. While I'm doing the AC compressor and the serpentine belt I plan to do idler and tensioner pullies and the water pump. At 250K miles I'll replace anything or everything to keep the car running reliably for another few years. Doing the differential oil filter and oil as well while it's laid up.
