Default Idle

2.9L non turbo
When I start the engine from a cold start, it starts quickly but tends to struggle to maintain the idle. I give it a little gas and it seems to fix itself. Sometimes I feel that the engine will cut out if I give it too much gas. The rest of the day it runs fine.
What should I take a look at?
BTW, there are no codes thrown via BRS unit.

Has the Electronic Throttle Module recall work been performed on the car? I had some quirkly throttle and idle issues with my S80 before I had the recall work done. The bulk of the work is uploading new calibration data and throttle curves. The results are excellent! All of the previous issues with the throttle are gone and the new curve results in a much improved acceleration coming off a stop.

I had the throttle software updated the month of the original recall was done. I recently cleaned the throttle thinking that it would fix my issue.
Any other area to look at?

Fuel filter was changed last month.

Isn't there an extended Fuel Pump warranty in place? I recall a letter that was sent to me. Perhaps this is contributing to my symptoms.

Yes there is - Volvo issued me a letter in June '08 stating they are voluntarily initiating an extended warranty program on the fuel pump for up to 10 years or 150,000 miles for '01-'02 S80s.

From the letter the reason is: "...fuel pumps on these vehicles may not meet the certified emission-control durability requirements. Volvo has found that due to the combination of varying fuel quality and prolonged exposure in warm temperature climates the fuel pump may become faulty, resulting in a fuel odor." "Coverage under this warranty is limited to the symptoms described in this letter for the fuel pump only."

Not a super description of the fault conditions but may warrant a conversation with your local volvo service center. I hope this helps.
