That sounds like a good idea.

Check the window guide at the back of the door.

Tech, I'm new to this site and have the same problem with my driver window. My local garage say that the car needs to go back to Volvo as the ECU will need to be reset when the window is fixed. Is this true, or is it something the garage should be able to do?

No it will not need to be reset by the dealer. That is as long as they only replace the window regulator are motor.
If you replace the switch yes.

They can do it themselves. Put the window up all the way and hold the switch going up for 5 seconds. Then put it down and hold down on the switch for 5 seconds and it will be reset.

Another window problem.....

It's gotten really cold outside, and when I stopped to get gas and lowered both my front windows, my passenger side stopped after about 2 inches, which I suspect is because of the ice around the seal. My driver's side window, however, snapped off the assembly when the motor pulled down. The window isnt broken, but it completely popped off the motor. The motor does work, but the window wont go up or down (without a jostle....then it will bounce and rattle to no end.) I was wondering if there was anything I could personally do to fix this, considering there seems to be no electrical damage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The regulator should be a cable setup.

I have a feeling you will need to replace the Regulator.

Will the motor need replacing too, or are they seperate pieces? Because I noticed you can buy the regulator seperate from the Regulator w/ motor. And can I replace it myself, or should I have an expert do it?

Did you replace your regulator by yourself? If so how was it? Someone tried to force my window open and bent my regulator so now it needs to be replaced and I hate my dealer so I am just looking at my options first.

It really isn't that bad it is riveted in.
You will have to drill the old rivets out and install new ones.
