my volvo s80 2.4 2001 5 cylinder going throuth coolant fast
Hi guys i recently got a volvo s80 2001 model with 200k miles on it its pretty old but have been ruuning smoothly for a mont and half now, until a few days ago it gave me a low coolant level stop engine light, i added about a litre of the 50/50 mixture of coolant but it did not last 2 days and i got the warning message again. i inspected the vehicle all round there is no smoke or visible leaks my oil is a bit dirty as it had no service history and the oil i drained was super dirty and thick so i am assuming its the reason why my oil quiclkly got dirty too. the oil colour is black brownish or copper like maybe not sure if this indicates an internal leak. but when i turn on the heater there is nothing only A/C . what could be the problem any advice pliz.. i really love this car the comfort it has is amazing.

the usual suspects are the hoses, radiator seams, coolant overflow reservoir and the heater core/o-rings. Feel around the carpet/floors by the center console for any dampness. What does the exhaust look like/smell like? If you see some white smoke and the exhaust has a slightly sweet smell, it could be coolant suggesting a possible head gasket leak or a turbo seal. that said, the most likely cause is hoses/reservoir/radiator so the first step is a pressure test.

best to start a new thread when you are changing topics. As to your question, I've never noticed an engine stalling when the oil cap is removed - but the only thing that connects the oil cap to the engine's performance is the PCV system/oil separator. sounds like when you remove the cap you are creating a huge intake air leak through the PCV plumbing that runs into the intake pipe, enough to stall the car.
