Default Need new remote for 1999 S80

Hi all,
One of my kids dropped the 1999 S80 remote and ran over it with a lawn mower. Ok, don't laugh. But its true. I just need to replace it and not spend an arm and a leg. The local dealer where I bought the car from 12 years ago, says the cost is $250 which includes the new remote, software and programming labor. This sounds like robbery. Do I have any alternatives?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

sorry about your remote, but this is the bitter pill we have to take with todays cars, they are for sale all over e-bay but to get them programmed to your car you need the six digit code that the remote has from birth to let it be programmed to your car, if you dont get the code with a used remote it is just a "parts" remote, I learned this the hard way on e-bay, you said you bought the car from the dealer years ago, talk to the parts person and ask if they have any coupons or upcoming mailings or specials, also flat out ask if they can help you out someway either on the part or the service end, it dont hurt to ask, good luck, beefheart.
