No aftermarket cat. conv. for 2002 S80???!!!
Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket catalytic converter available for a 2002 S80 2.9L non turbo, 95,000 miles? I'm getting conflicting answers from the dealer (who wants $1800 for OEM converter, $2200 installed), my independent mechanic (who I trust) highly recommended an exhaust specialist who, to my surprise, claims the only thing available right now is OEM. Is the exhaust guy being lazy and only looking for an exact fit? I can't find anything on the net either...Any suggestions on what to do or where to go get a good aftermarket would be greatly appreciated.

I had considered cutting mine off and running straight through tubes at one point but I heard that will make the car run like crap. I don't know for sure becasue I never did try it. I was just told by one of the members on here that it wasn't a good idea? Like you I shopped around and couldn't ever find any decent priced systems. Let me know if you come up with anything.

hey,
this link might be helpful the catalytic converter is 10 fold less than the dealer, the only thing that you would need to get is O2 sensors.

hope that helps

Tech-What would you recommend I do?
Try to find a discounted OEM cat. conv. and have an independent mechanic install?
Take my chances with a 2000?
Wait until an aftermarket is available? The CEL drives me crazy though.
Find an exhaust guy that will make something work?
Do nothing? We live in a state that does not require emission checks and the car is running fine for now...
Thanks in advance for the advice.
