Default Non linear acceleration 2001 S80 T6

Hello, I'm new here and have a question

Okay, I've searched this forum and did a Google search also. In my 2001 S80 T6, I never opened her up since I bought it a month ago. Roads were clear and I decided to punch the accelerator and open her up. I accelerated from a stop light all the way to about 65-70 MPH. During the acceleration I felt a rocking back and forth feeling thoroughout all the gears not drastic but seat of the pants feeling. It felt like the transmission was trying to keep up with the engine. It felt like it was downshifting then upshifting. Acceleration was brisk but not smooth or linear. Maybe a better way to describe it is if you were driving a manual trans, it's like pressing the clutch slowly, shifing gears slowly, and the gear catching on slowly, but you are flooring it. I was not using the shiftronic and STC was on. Any ideas?

try taking traction off, those computer systems really ruin the drive of a car

I also have an 01 S80 T6. Same problem! I didn't have the problem until I broke the 100K mi. mark. This may not be related, but earlier in my car's lifetime, i hadproblemswith the engine "burping", a quick sudden complete loss of power that lasted for only a split second, or sometimes the engine would completely die. There was also problemswith the engine idle, jumping from 7-800 rpm up to 1500 or 2000, then droppingdrastically low, sometimes to a dead zero. I replaced the electronic fuel control module and that corrected the problem. Now I am experiencing the non linear acceleration that you're talking about. I don't think it's a transmission problem at all. The inconsistency is coming from the engine and I suspect it's a turbo problem. I have to take it in to the dealer to have it checked out, but I have been putting it off because, well.... its really expensive! let me know if you figure it out, and I'll do the same.

That sounds like the software update that is available for the ETM and other functions of the engine. The update should be either cheap or free, so I'd recommend getting that done ASAP.

Mine does it to same car same year. I replaced the turbo control valve but it still does it and I have the software update. I think it is the ETM because mine is still original and they are known to be problematic. I just need to find a way to get Volvo to diagnose it and fix it for free with the extended warranty. I am not sure how bad it has to be before they replace it.

ORIGINAL: T6 4 me

If it's causing you issues (which it is) they should replace that under your warranty without a problem. Most warranties will cover, no questions asked as long as there is a "failure", the definition of failure to a mechanic is if it isn't working properly. You don't have to wait for your car to stop running before getting the ETM replaced. At the very least the diagnostic of the problem will be free, so bring your car to the dealership, explain your issue and let them tell you EXACTLY what the problem is.

I bring my 2000 Volvo S80 into the dealership every 6 months or so just to have it looked over. I don't have an extended warranty for the Volvo, but the periodic maintenance that I've had done (it hasn't been expensive) has allowed for my car to run like it's brand new. Don't put off the small stuff for too long, that can cause larger issues down the road.

I have a 99 T6 and have the same problem. I replaced the engine (due to a burnt valve) with an 01 motor, and this problem is still there. I put in a new wastegate control valve also, and although it seems to have improved the turbo boost, the non linear acceleration remains the same. I have taken the car in three times to complain about the ETM, and the stealer tells me it's fine(a word of caution: if they determine the ETM is okay, they will charge you for the diagnostic). There's also a "turbo boost control valve" that's in the front of the car, on a pipe just behind the radiator. I might try replacing that, and it it helps, I'll report. Just beware: I went to buy one, and they sold me a brake booster solenoid! Tells you how well those stealers know their cars.

As to the burping and stalling, I had that problem a week ago. Another trip to the stealer, a full day lost and a couple hundred bucks later, the problem turned out to be that the "turbo charge pipe" had come loose. I'm looking forward to see if we find the solution...

Wow, your dealer sucks. I have never been charged for ANY diagnostic. In fact, my trips to the dealer have been relatively inexpensive and pleasant. It's unfortunate you have to deal with folks like that.

I'm in Southern California. They charge me $100.00/hr no matter what. Last trip, I had the battery replaced. $110.00 for the battery & $50.00 labor. Can you believe that???

Everyone may think this is kinda funny, but I put a new air filter in mine and the problem seems to have disappeared?? Maybe the turbo was starving for air under boost causing the pressure level to vary?
