Default Oil Change Service ( would you recommend this tech)

Hello,

I sometimes get service coupons from the Volvo dealership and there is and oil change service that I am thinking about getting done but its kind of costly then a reguler oil change ( $137.00 plus tax) , so I would like some opinions please on what this exactly is. Below is all the stuff that is included in the coupon.

[ul][*]Change engine oil and filter[*]Multi point inspection[*]Install BG MOA friction fighter for oil system (dont have a clue what this is)[*]Install BG CF5 Carbon fighter for fuel system (dont have a clue what this is either)[*]BG Oil Power Flush[/ul]
Has anyone had these things done before or would recommend me doing this.

I have a 99 S80 2.9 with 122k miles on it. I had to replace the transmission at 114k miles with a brand new one costing me $3500 plus tax so I want to take care of the car so it will last a long time.

I've never heard of these:
[*]Install BG MOA friction fighter for oil system (dont have a clue what this is)[*]Install BG CF5 Carbon fighter for fuel system (dont have a clue what this is either)

I am curious what those are. What kind of oild do they use? Is if full synthetic?

OK, here's the "carbon fighter" http://www.autobahnpower.com/products.asp?recnumber=551- so if it actually does anything you can get it for $15. And here's the "friction fighter" http://www.autobahnpower.com/products.asp?recnumber=544- $14 - note, this is only beneficial for petroleum oils (non-synthetic).

I'm very skeptical of the sorts of products that these appear to be andI haven't seen a good reason to do an oil flush - see this article that discusses oil flushes: http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html#flushingand this one about additives (not these specifically, but others): http://www.carbibles.com/additives.html

For me, I'd forgo the coupon and just change the oil with a high quality oil and filter and change the fuel filter at proper intervals.

Hi,

The dealer service seems to come with a bunch of junks.

Most automotive engine oils already have those additives in them (friction fighter, carbon fighter, etc..). They may not be the exact same brand/ingredients, but those aftermarket additional additives are absolutely unnecessary. For that kind of service fee, I would just have it done at an independent shop specialising in Swedish/European cars with full synthetic oil & OEM oil filter. Many members here do their oils, including myself.

So, I would give the coupon to your evil coworker and forget it[8D].

The specs for the S80 in the Owner's Manual include this:
Engine oil
Meeting API specification SG, SG/CD, SH or Energy Conserving(EC) II.

Extra oil additives must not be used unless advised by an authorized Volvo retailer.

This dealer is not advising the use of the additives based onexaminations ofindividual vehicles. He is trying to increase his profits by 'pushing' additives to every owner. Volvo would not condone this.

Go with JPN's advice and forget it.

Well ok since everybody is saying dont do it so I came to a conclusion that it is totally not worth spending spending close to $140 dollars. Thanks for the information.
