Default painting underhood plastic engine pieces...removal and prep??

I just have been wondering....I've been looking underneath my hood and looking at the engine bay.

Well...in my opinion, it's really...umm....black-looking.

Because my car is silver, I was thinking about mabye painting some of the plastic pieces a color that would make the engine and the other plastic parts pop out a bit.

Is the cover on the top of the engine that says VOLVO just a plastic piece that comes off or does it act as a valve cover of sorts?

Just want to detail then engine bay is all. It looks really uninspiring compared to the outside of the car now.

Basically all I need to know is what pieces are simple to take off and do.

Thanks!

The black cover comes off easy. It is 2 pieces.

But make sure you clean then really good. There is a sealer that they put on from the factory. I will bet the paint won't stick to the sealer.

Start cleaning it with a really good Brake cleaner. You should see the film start coming off. continue cleaning it good till it looks like it is all off.

The rough it up with some sand paper or scotch guard then paint.
