Default power steering leak

had a bad power steering leak and figured i would have to replace the rack and pinion. took off the wheels and noticed no leaks near the boots, but leak was on top of the rack, from under the car i could see fluid drops on one of the lines to the rack. tried to get to it without lowering the subframe but no luck. I lowered the subframe and found the upper fitting was loose, less than finger tight. I tightened it, 19mm wrench, and seems to have solved the problem. I wonder how many have paid to have the rack replaced when all it needed was tight fittings. check closely before you spend big bucks

Had the same exact thing on my 99 S80 at approx 100K. Also had to lower the sub fame to get to it. Fortunately I have a 2 post lift in my shop and it was not to dificult. Not only was one loose to the finger test, the other was real loose but not yet leaking. Volvo must have very lax inspections on there assembly personnel.
