Question Replacing Valve Cover Caps S80 T6

There are two caps located on top of my 2000 S80 T6 valve cover. They are directly above the camshafts and I guess they are inspection plugs- they look like freeze plugs but obviously they are not.

Mine were leaking oil and as part of a cylinder head rebuild I thought I would be able to install the new ones (using a rubber hammer) from the top but I cannot get them to go in. I even sanded the edges of one down to make a bevelled edge but it still would not go in. I'm thinking I'll have to pull the valve cover back off and tap them in from the bottom of the valve cover.

Has anyone ever replaced these caps? Were you able to replace them from the top or did you have to press/tap them in from the bottom with the valve cover off? Thanks.

You have to install them from inside the cam cover.
