First, the vitals:

2001 Volvo S80 2.5 Diesel Automatic

Right, lads: I'm a Canadian, living in the UK and this morning my S80 died in traffic on the way to work. It was running just fine, then just quit - no sputtering, it just quit. Then, I couldn't get it started, again, and had it towed back to our house.

I have had a problem with the battery, but replaced it and the car ran fine with the new battery I put in. The car will turn over, but it won't start. It doesn't even catch, but it is turning over (not just clicking).

I've checked all the electricals. Even tried swapping out the EC relay, to no avail.

Could bad diesel be the culprit? If possible, I would like to do the repair myself, as the nearest garage is miles away. Any guidance would be very much appreciated.

I'm just wondering if it could be the immobiliser. I did see the REDUCED GUARD notice come up a couple of days ago, and then it reverted back to FULL GUARD on the information display.

Apart from that, that's all I've got I think, in the way of information.
