hi guys,
hopefully you can help or give me an idea of how much its likely to cost to get repaired.
i have a V Reg S80 that i bought 3 days ago. Twice now its switched off while driving! It starts straight away..it doesnt stall..it just dies! Then when i turn the key it comes back to life. What could be wrong with it and is it an expensive job to get it sorted!

does your check engine light come on? From what I've read s80's are either plagued with issues or some people get lucky and get one built on a friday. AutoZone will give you a free diagnostics of your engine if the check engine light comes on, may wanna start there. Or could be an electrical issue, let us know what happens please.

You didn't say what year it was.
Does it only happen when the car is warm, say 15-20 minutes of driving?
So you can start it in park, can you also get it into neutral and no issues?
Then when you put it into reverse or drive/gear, it stalls and shuts down?
If you answer yes to those questions, it's your transmission torque convertor locking up prematurely.
My guess is either you need a new shift solenoid sensor or the transmission torque convertor is going south.
If the above is No to any of them, it could be just about anything, something expensive or cheap like a bad ground.
Hopefully you got a warranty from the place you bought it from and have them look at it.
