Angry s80 Should I or Should'nt I

Yesterday when looking for a used car I found a clean 2000 S80 with 94,700 miles on it. Body and int. are very clean. The car seems to run good, tranny shifted good, brakes good. I can get it for $4700.00 Carfax shows 2 owners 1st owner seems to have done ok with the routine maintenance done by a volvo dealer and traded it in at 74,000 when 2nd owner picked it up not much on servive records till at 79,765 80,396 and 85,008 it was brought in to the original volvo dealer for a No-start / Hard start condition check. What is that. There is nothing else on the carfax after that 80,008 service and the car has 94,700 miles on it now. Used car dealer where I saw it does'nt seem to know much about it. I did some consumer review research, and research about that the 2000 S80 all of which were not very encouraging. Most reviews say its a money pit, and an electronics nightmare, and very expensive to fix. I am very mechanical and have always done all my own work on my vehicles (chevy ,fords, hondas, nissans) But this car scares me a bit. I know nothing about the volvos. This car would be my wifes daily driver and must be reliable, and my budget does'nt have room for a nightmare of a money pit. Am I getting in over my head with this car and should I run before its to late. Need some advice from you Volvo experts! SHOULD I or SHOULDN'T I Please help! Thanks Ed

yes you are right ..from what i have heard and read they DO have a LOT of problems. If you do want that kind of design S80 before the new design makeover , than i say stick with 2005-2006 models. i have a 2006 S80 and its been a bit over 2years, daily driver. Have been problems free. I only did a few services from Volvo dealer in the beginning but after that was done by local service shops. Plus i like few goodies on 2006 year model..like interior wood steering wheel, LED break lights, small engine with turbo = power and great mpg considering its size..
Anyways you might lucky and have no problems for the life of the car. but if i were you i would definitely stay away from those years of S80. If it was Toyota or Honda then i would take that risk because those cars are way easier and low cost maintenance to fix.
I would say get and an S80 but 2006 model year. You will def like that year model.

SHOULD NOT. Try to get a '98 S90, one of the best cars Volvo ever built, RWD. The '99 S80 was the worse car Volvo ever built, so the '00 wasn't far behind it. The '98 S90 is a road warrior .

Any car of this vintage with DSTC should be avoided like the plague. Few were made and replacement parts (ABS module, Brake Booster) are VERY expensive. The ABS module can NOT be repaired like the standard ABS version so you WILL spend (YOU WILL REPLACE it if it hasn't been replaced yet) a large sum of money for a new one. You will replace the brake booster as well. Booster runs in the low $500s for DSTC.
