Default S80 Turbo size

I was picking through my engine bay yesterday and I noticed how damn scrawny the turbos look on my car. I don't know what size they are but I know I want some bigger turbos, maybe T3? Should I get remanufactured or brand new? Will I need supporting mods for right now, I only plan on 15-18psi? Will I need to upgrade my intercooler RIGHT NOW? How about the ECU?

My plans are to make a good amount of power in the 400-500hp range.
My planned mods are:
3" downpipe to 2.5" exhaust, magnaflow muffler maybe highflow cats.
Maybe a self-designed intake.
ECU upgrade, maybe standalone.
EVENTUALLY a front mount intercooler.
Bigger turbos.
Of course coilovers and slightly bigger tires with nitto super radials.
Lighter rims and seats, custom carbon fiber hood and trunk.

And whatever the hell I can do to make my auto tranny survive. I might just save up and head over to Quaiffe :s

Pretty sure your turbos are 12b's.

One you need to do STAGE ZERO. Which can be found in the General Volvo section in the VolvoForums Resources Thread.

3" mandrel bent downpipe is a great idea and you will see the most gains from that mod when you do exhaust mods on your car. You have two turbos so you will have two downpipes. You may want to go 2.5" downpipes because of the space constraints.

A 2.5" mandrel bent catback with Magnaflows is also a great idea. Now if you upgrade to bigger turbo's your going to want a 3" catback system instead.

Your stock intake is the best design. BMC CDA makes a nice intake system and it is sold by Viva Performance. You could just slap a K&N panel filter in there and be good to go. Also you can create your own and I suggest you do but be sure to come up with some type of heatshield please.

An ECU is warranted very much so. And unless you plain on modding heavily standalone isn't needed. You are going to pay big big bucks for standalone. Civinco and there are a few others out there for our cars. More info on those over on Volvospeed.com You want to look into RICA, IPD, Upsolute, SpeedTuning USA, Inmotion.

A FMIC is a great way to relocate the intercooler and get better air flow and is an all around better design. Of course yours would be a custom job. There are no kits available.

KW is the only compnay that currently makes coilovers for the s80 models.

A carbon fiber hood and trunk will be very custom pieces. No one and I mean no one makes them for Volvo's anymore and when they did they were just for the 850 and 70 series models. You will spend well over $6k just in molds for the hood and trunk lid.

Good luck finding lighter rims. Seats are easily found.

If I went with a full 3" system right now, would I be sacrificing torque low-end torque?
The 12b is a Mitsu. turbo right?

I'm sure it wont be much, but I bet you will loose some power. However if you are going to upgrade to bigger turbos down the line then a full 3" system would be warranted anyways.

On Volvospeed.com a member over there has a s80T6 and only went with 2.5" downpipes. I truly never got a real answer of why he didn't go three in downpipes.

Yes the 12b is a Mitsubishi turbo.

Ideas to make your auto tranny survive....

1. Level 10 (Google it)
2. Put a nice tranny cooler in place.

So you think that the injectors and fuel pump will be adequate? I was thinking some hotter plugs and wires, too.
Thinkk it could handle a GT-K-450 turbo?

You may want a nice Walbro 195 or 225. I think those are the models.

Injectors should be fine unless you go way bigger turbos.

Don't know what that is. I would say you would be able to handle some 14b's maybe some 13g's.
