My nephew picked up a nice 2003 S80 (90k miles) last year but couldn't afford collision insurance at the time of purchase. A couple weeks later he was on a snowy backroad, slid off the road and heavily damaged the left front end (engine is fine).
So now the choice is whether to sell it (for parts) or try to find another S80 w/ a bad motor but a good body and do a motor transplant. Anybody here ever try something like that? Any suggestions? I would have some professional help (friends) but they're not volvo mechanics.

mann that is lot of work and hassle. i just say sell the car completely and get another S80. 2003-2006 has the same design and if you like that design stick with those years. I am sure you will find a good deal . How much did he pay for it originally. 90K is a very good mileage

 

He paid $4k for the car, but it has a "rebuilt" title from NYS. He recently picked up a new Suzuki SX4 (man, are they blowing those off the lots, huge discounts) so now it's just a matter of recouping what he can from the S80. Poor kid took out a loan to buy the S80, got to drive it two weeks, and has spent the last year paying his loan off. Expensive lesson indeed for a 22 year old!
Guess I'll start running some classifieds and hope we can find someone looking for a motor. Thanks for your advice,
