Should I not turn the camshaft?
Had a P0011 code on my 99 S80 2.9L so I checked my timing marks. Everything lined up so I removed the rear cam covers and noticed the intake cam was off a bit (notch was about the 11 o'clock position) So I put my 10mm socket on the bolt holding the cam sensor and turned it clockwise so it lined up where it should be. Started it up, shut it off and hooked up my scan gauge... no more P0011. Great! Drove it a few miles then came back. Opened the hood to put the timing cover back on and noticed oil all over coming from behind the intake pulley! Did turning the camshaft ruin the CVVT hub? Or should I be able to tighten the torx bolt on the pulley?
OK. So it probably wasn't a good idea to turn the cam with the timing belt still on. I checked the hub bolt with my torque wrench and it was tight so I guess the hub is bad. I thought the CVVT had enough "play" that I could make a minor adjustment
Update: Got a used hub from pull-a-part. (Yes, it's a gamble but it's cheap and has a 30 day warranty) Installed and no CEL.
Has a bit more "pep" to it so that old hub must have been shot. I must say that after all the engine work I've done on it, that cam lock/cam cover removal tool is the best $$$ I've spent.
