Default shudder going round bends

one of the other things thats bugging me at the moment is a judder/shudder from the front end when I accelerate going round a bend. Its quite servere and seems to stop the car accelerating aswell, robs it of the power.

Its doesn't happen if I'm coasting,

the harder I accelerate the worse it gets,

at very low speeds it doesn't seem to do it,

it 'seems' worse on left hand bends (but that could just be my option as I go round more left hand bends at speed).

I took it to a volvo master tech and he said it could be the voscous clutch on the right hand half shaft. Does this sound about right? I know some S80's don't have them, but it looks like I do ( sods law)

Cheers

I think it could be that.
Also are the control arm bushings good?
Axle inner joints good?

I need to replace one of the CV boots aswell, so I'll check all the joints at the same time but is there anything specific to look for? any tell tales that could give me a hint?

Cheers Tech for the help

Outer, I think the mechanics manage to put a very small cut in it when they where replacing the ball joint The cut is big enough to allow small amounts of grease out, but nothing could get in.

No, no clicking, its a very severe judder, makes the whole car shake, not like a worn bearing.

ok, cool thanks guys.

Just to confirm, Axle joints = CV joints? both inner and outer?

Don't suppose you've got a part number do you? I've got Vadis so I can look it up on there just to make sure I'm looking at the correct part. What should I be looking for? will it feel loose? rough? grinding when I move it around?

Cheers

Then inner joint should not have any play at all. Hold hand on inner joint then turn the axle shaft or wheel to check for play.
Almost like if you were trying to give it an Indian burn.

ok, was going round a roundabout the other day and I wasn't hanging around. Just as the tires started to loose a bit of grip it felt like the front was riding over ridges in the road but like I was going over them at an angle (imiaging you're on a boat, and the waves are coming in from the front left hand side)

I also heard a grinding/scaping noise (could have been tire on the wheel well)

I had the wheels off and could see anything obviously wrong. I checked the CV joints and there was a small amount of play. Is there supposed to be any play at all? or should it be nice and tight? the cars got 150k on the clock so its not impossible the CV joints have worn. It looks like the servicing has been neglected in the past.

Cheers

Should not have any play at all.
The other noise you hear might have been the tracs kicking in if you have it.

Thanks Tech, I'm replacing the outer boot shortly on the other side so I'll check that one aswell.

No, had traction Control turned off.

OK did you have your foot still resting on the brake?
Maybe it was the ABS?

No, deffinately not near the brake, I was trying to accelerate at the time and I don't use left foot braking.
