Im a student mechanic and today my group tried to Smog a 2002 S80 2.9L 6Cyl. however the STC was on, so I was the only one who knows how to turn if off because I worked for a few months at a Volvo shop. So, before the STC was off, the traction control will turn on whenever we give it throttle on the dyno. And it will jerk. So when it was off it was fine, but then our instructor which is a license Smog tech trying to do the run, had a hard time with the throttle because I guess he never driven a car with such responsive throttle. We have to go through the procedure x4 because of him. later on we were able to run the test, but their was communication error with the OBDII. So it Failed the test. However, I believe that some european cars are hard to Smog because the monitors will not run during the test which will fail the test. I also heard from a state referee that some one with a S90 spent a couple of hundreds just to let the mechanic drive the car 600miles to get the monitor running.

tech your the experienced tech, do you think its possible to drive the car around with differnet conditions before a Smog?

 

Sometimes it is very hard to get them all ready.

Here in Florida we don't have to worry about the emmissions test.

Although we have to get most of them done after repairing a car to make sure it is fixed properly.

The best bet is to take it on about a 10-20 miles trip with mixed highway and city driving.
Most of the time that will do it but not all the time.

 

yea that's what im thinking too!! good thing my XC70 is 02' so ill be 3-5 yrs till I have to smog it again!
