Default " Start Prevented Please Try Again." message

Just bought a 2004 S80 and at cold start this comes up on the screen. Starter will NOT engage...after a few tries the message will go away and the starter will do its job. Can someone please tell me what this is and how to correct?

Thanks!

Does it work normal or is the key itself sloppy? If it is sloppy then make sure you insert the key so that it stays straight by itself. if it hangs at 90 degrees then the computer cannot read it.

If it still works good then it might need the antenna ring(Lighted portion) around the ignition switch.

The key does not "switch" anymore. The spring is gone..and the key just falls out of the fob.

So your saying its not "reading" the key properly?

Most likely yes. make sure when you insert the key it stays level on its own.

Thank you so much, my my key fob has a broken spring, so as long as the key is lined up straight with the fob it works, when it is at a 90 degree it doesn't work. Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for the solution. I had the exact same problem, for the exact same reason. This was great advice. Thank you.
