Steam from engine compartment but no warning of overheating?
Hi all,
I have a 2009 Volvo S80 T6. Yesterday I was driving home and I noticed a significant amount of steam coming from under the hood when I turned my engine off. The air from my heater also smelled funny while I was at idle. There was no steam while it was running, and there were no lights or warning messages on the dash. I checked my coolant level and it was at the minimum (Although there was a wet spot of some sort last week). I filled to the maximum level, but I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem and could point me to a possible fix? It was also raining out, and about 32 degrees. FYI my car already leaks oil from the vacuum booster, although this never creates steam. It needs a new serpentine belt and I plan on fixing this next week as well.
Thanks a lot!
Jacob
Edit: I found the issue when my car started spewing coolant all over the ground. The bearing in the water pump went bad, so I replaced that along with the belt/tensioner and the vacuum booster.
