Default Strap caught in latch, trunk won't open

the straps of a backpack got stuck in latch when the trunk was closed, we can't get the trunk open. We disassembled the key fob and tried opening the trunk by the light near license plate, no luck. Any ideas how to open.

What model Volvo? Depending on the model, you may be able to fold the back seat down and enter the trunk and pull the lever from there.

no lever on this car. My husband just jumped climbed up on trunk, jumped on it and it released 😲

There is a trunk release lever in the lid for all S80s from 2007-2016. It is located next to the latch, indicated by the glow-in-the-dark pull handle attached to a wire. This has been required by law in the US since 2002. Some think it is due to kidnapping concerns, but actually was because of kids who died playing in cars and accidentally locking themselves in the trunk.

You can only reach that release if you are in the trunk. Our trunk would not open, seats fold down by pulling the levers in trunk. So no access from back seat to get to trunk.

you can only reach the release if you are in the trunk or back seats are down. The seats were up(the release is in trunk). The older cars had the release on the seat back.

Understood. Similiar problem in the XC60. Nice storage space to hold jumper cables with spare tire, but you can’t access spare tire by opening the rear hatch if battery is dead. Odd design logic.
