Default Strut replacement

Well I just got done with replacing struts on my wifes 2002 s80 t6 with 154k on it.
so for all of us do it yourselfers out there, it was a pretty simple job, I cannot believe how well Volvos are engineered.
all I did was take the 2 bolts off at the bottom of the strut and take off the top bolt for the swaybar link and that was it, then the top 3 in the engine compartment.
they donot sell the complete replacements, so I had to compress the spring and all that comes with that.
it took me 4.5 hrs from start to finish, the 1st one gave me some issues but the second one was a piece of cake.
I did not get a front end alignment as nothing in the steering changed, but I will keep an eye on the tread for abnormal wear.

Thanks for sharing your experience of replacing the strut. I am going add here the video for replacing Volvo S60 Strut repair process. I had the same issue before with my Volvo S60 and I successfully replace the damaged one.

I am going wait and see about the camber, all seems well right now, had no changes in steering what so ever, or handling, I know that its normal practice for an alignment after strut change but am not going to waste 70 bucks if not needed. thanks

That's your choice. Once the tires start wearing, they are worn and don't fix themselves. So cheaping out on an alignment could cost more later.

No matter how carefully you do the job the alignment will be affected, albeit may not be noticeable to the naked eye.

Okay I think I have a noisy knocking strut. I know they have to be shot after 166,000 miles. Do I need any special tools? I saw some special socket on a parts store site but I didn't notice for which Volvo it was for.

AND WHAT'S A STRUT BEARING? LOL Someone pulling something?

you will need a spring compressor, be careful using it.other then that, pretty basic stuff. strut bearing is a plate on the top of the strut that spins when u turn the whell, do your research on it and u will be fine, but replace it all while u have it apart.
