I will bet it is one of the codes the aftermarket scanners cannot read.
Have you tried the cheater way to see if there is a code in the ECM?

what is the cheater way? I talked to volvo and they said sounds like low voltage. Carried it to 3 different places. The first one said the battery needed to be replaced. The second one said there were no problems with battery or chargeing system. The third one said the alternator was putting out 12.5volts and the battery was low on account of it. We have a rebuilder in town said for me to take it off and they would check it and rebuild it for 75.00 if needed. Would not the light stay on all the time if it is in the altinator. The light is off this morning after being on all day yesterday

I was getting an elec. system service required message in my 1999. It would come on and then go off and then come on again. I traced it to the alternator. I took mine in for a rebuild and it was bad. I think the power steering pump was leaking on it. I get it back tomorrow so hopefully the message will stay off.

Well was the message an electrical system service or engine system service?

The cheater was is press and hold the read button. While holding it turn the rear foglights on and off 3 times quick. In the window it will say checking for DTC stored in the car. Then it should say DTC'S stored in car. Press the read button to see what modules have codes stored.

No sensor on the bottle.
When you go through the systems it only tells you what systems have codes.
