Default Thinking of buying

I'm new to Volvos and thinking of buying a 2000 or 2001 s80. Does it need to run on premium gas or is 87 octane ok? Anything I should be looking for before buying?
Thanks,
Don

I run 87 on mine with no problem. These cars can have lots of problems and I don't even know where to start.I have mechanical abilities so I have dealt with some of my issues on my own.If you are not willing to do most of the work yourself I would stay away from them.....unless you are getting one with absolutely NO issues. Mine by the way is a 99 with 169,000 miles on it

Not familiar with 00 S80. But lots of Transmission problems with 01 & 02 the P2 Chasis cars (s80, s60, v70). Most of the Volvo's may recommend a higher grade fuel but if you run lower grades usually the computer will adjust to it.

I will also say these P2 Cars have lots of electrical issues as well. The engines are solid and if you do the maintenance they should run a long time. But plan on constantly replacing burn out bulbs and a few other electrical issues. I would just avoid avoid these era cars that are most known for having the transmission issues.
