Throttle body cleaning advice needed
My 99 S80 T6 (187K miles) no longer starts on the first turn of the key in the morning. After that it is just fine. The throttle body has never been touched since it was replaced under recall many years ago.
To anyone who has done this job, any advice?
Looks like removing the cooling fan is a great way to get some more space. Besides air intake piping, anything else I will need to remove?
Thanks.

You shouldn't have to remove anything but the tubing to do it... its 4 10 mil bolts all around.... I would order a new gasket based on the fact you may have a leak afterwards.... DISCONNECT THE BATTERY The starter doesn't get along with metal objects... be very careful with the plug as it gets brittle.... clean it up and use dielectric grease..... feel free to scrub away at the inside... (I actually used brake clean and a steel brush) and make sure you get everything back together tight I would do plugs and a fuel filter and check over everything... go with volvo plugs it makes a big difference

A word of advice......removing the 10mill bolt that secures your Engine oil dipstick so you can move it out of your way, CAREFULLY, as needed..... will make accessing the back passenger side bolt a TON easier. and remember that there are quite a few vital electrical connections to be mindful of while trying to pull the TB out. Make sure to check all of your connections before and after you reassemble. Piece of cake, and well worth your time. (These pics are what mine looked like, but I live in the country)
