Default Transmission service urgent? Gears stuck? Wtf is going on?

I own an 01' T6, 172 000 Kms (like 90k miles or so i guess?)
Yesterday i was driving along and a message popped up stating "Transmission service urgent".
The worse part, car got stuck in third gear. I switched to manual, still can't get out of third - i flip the gearshift, but nothing happens. I was in a bit of a shock to be honest. Got to a light, turned the car off, turned it back on, and gears started shifting again, but the "tran service urgent" msg remained. Today i had court in the morning, had to go, took my car - gears shifting fine, and the service message disappeard! WTF is going on? anyone had this in the past?

I was going to take the car to the dealer today. But, now im having second thoughts on this - however, i need an oil change so im bringing it in either way. Should i have them run a diagnostic and see if anything pops up (i most probably will do this), also, - should i explain the problem or not mention it? I cant afford useless part replacements because "this could be the problem". I already poured money pointlessly into the car ons everal occasions, so would like to avoid that.

Thanks in advance for any imput!

Default RE: Transmission service urgent? Gears stuck? Wtf is going on?

i had the same problem and it will start running in a low power mode because something is wrong with your transmission. get it looked at as soon as possible because i had to put a new transmission in mine. the cost of it was up close to 4,000 dollars.
