Default Trunk catch failing

Hi all,
I've searched the forums but can't find any reference to this - wondering whether anyone can offer any suggestions
I've a lovely 2002 S80 D5 S, which has recently started misbehaving
My sister in law got out to get her bag from the trunk / boot a couple of days back - i popped the boot with the key fob and lo and behold, it wouldn't close
The catch on the boot simply won't catch
The interior lights back there are still coming on and it doesn't seem to be a problem with fuse number 6 in the rear fuse box
The dashboard message panel tells me"Trunk open" and i get the little yellow warning triangle
I've tried fiddling with the manual key hole above the number plate but to no avail - its action seems ok as I turn the key
The fob still works to lock / unlock the rest of the car ok
A friend, trying to be helpful, slammed the boot so hard it dislodged the indicator bulb(!) but still no good
I'm normally pretty handy, but don't know where to start with this - should I look in to getting a replacement lock mechanism?
If so can anyone recommend a good specialist in Dublin (Ireland)?
Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone else had the same problem?
Many thanks
Neil
