My Volvo s80 1999 with 145K KM is finally done with the used Transmission which works fine.

My Q is since these models are prone to have transmission problems, how I can keep this car with me longer and keep transmission healthy?

Last Problem: Since Volvo says there Transmission oil is for life time (Can be good in Euro/Us) but in Middle east some times we have over 60C heat therefore I lost my transmission because its transmission oil was never changed....which destroyed my Transmission's clutch plates, valve body, solenoids etc.

 

Change the fluid! Even the owner's manual says to do so. It's easy on these cars because they have a drain plug (you don't have to drop the entire pan). Drain and fill, stay away from the power flush because more times than not, it tends to stir up debris.

I'm out in the Phoenix, AZ area. We don't see 60°C out here (45-50 is more common). But, I'm running 178k miles on the original tranny. Take care of it and with a little luck, you'll be okay.

 

PieceKeeper, No, so far I know 1999 s80 2.9 does not have any drain plug and therefore in order to change the oil we must drop the pan.

Please share if you any authenticated information, whether this model has drain plug or not.
